• Olympic Torch for Dundee

    The city council is welcoming the announcement that Dundee is to be a route location on the Olympic Torch relay in the build up to the 2012 London games.

    Leisure, arts and communities convener Cllr Bob Duncan visited the Rotary Football Festival for children with a disability to celebrate the city's involvement.

    He said: "This is tremendous news for Dundee and I am sure that people across city are looking forward to welcoming the Olympic Torch relay next year.

    "Dundonians participate in a variety of sports in their communities every day and also take a keen interest in the exploits of the world's top athletic performers.

    "People in Dundee will be thrilled by the prospect that the city is to be part of the torch relay in 2012 ahead of the London games.

    "The Olympics is major global event that is watched by an audience of hundreds of millions and we are excited that Dundee will be involved in the build up to the games.

    Cllr Duncan added: "Dundee is also looking forward to the London 2012 Paralympic Games and this Rotary Football Tournament today shows how we encourage participation in sport locally."
