An anticipated 10 000 walkers from
all over Scotland are expected to gather on Sunday the 10 June 2007 to celebrate
the 10th birthday of the Great Scottish Walk. Walkers can choose
from a one, six or a twelve mile walk to raise funds for their chosen
charities.
The Great Scottish Walk,
led by the George Watson Pipe Band, launches at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh
at 10.30 and is followed by the walks. The twelve mile walk is en-route to some
of Edinburgh’s favourite landmarks including Holyrood Park, Edinburgh Castle,
Princess Street Gardens, Calton Hill and the Port of Leith.
“This year’s walk is
looking to be our best ever with lots of entertainment and festivities. We are
also very excited to launch the Great Scottish Walk’s new mascot – Scotty,” says
Terry Crossley, co-organiser.
Over 100 charities
throughout Scotland and the United Kingdom benefit from the walk. The Great
Scottish Walk also shares its anniversary with Capabilities Scotland’s
60th, St Columbus Hospice’s 25th and Enlighten celebrates
their tenth anniversary.
To enter the walk, go to
www.greatscottishwalk.com.
Entrance costs £10 per person and 100% of monies raised are given to the
charities. Participants can also walk for the Mascot Charity. Funds raised are
distributed equally between affiliated charities.
The 2007 theme is “Let’s
do the time walk again” and participants are encouraged to dress
up.
