SHE’s an eco - BEAUTY! Gillian Murphy may make people green with envy with her stunning looks and heart warming personality, but this beauty wants to make Scotland GREEN, to save our plant.
The beautiful blonde is hoping to bag the converted Miss Earth Scotland title, after competing at the glittering semi-finals in Glasgow on May 1st. Successfully making it to the final, and impressing judges not only on her outstanding beauty, but also with her eco-credentials and desire to educating people about the three R’s - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
The Miss Earth pageant, which is the third largest televised pageant in the world, which this year will take place in the Philippines, will see beauties from over 90 countries battle it out for the beauty crown with a difference. With the Miss Earth Pageant contestants being informed, goal-oriented and committed to playing a part in preserving and protecting the environment for future generations.
The 24 year old beauty who is studying a degree in Risk Management at Glasgow Caledonian University told the Dundee Messenger “I am so honoured and grateful to be in the position that I am in right now, making it to the final is fantastic, I now want to use this platform to really help our environment and make a difference, after all that is what the contest is all about.”
“As part of my degree at university we are encouraged to look at the ways in which society and businesses contribute towards global warming and what we can all do to prevent and minimize it. I recycle paper, cans and bottles in my house, and I would really courage others to do the same. For every tonne of paper recycling the savings are, at least 30,000 litres of water, 3000 - 4000 KWh electricity (enough for an average 3 bedroom house for one year) and 95% of air pollution, these figures really do show that every single one of us, can really make a huge difference”
The leggy blonde who’s semi-final dress was provided by bridal and prom company GLITZ, has decided to auction the dress and give all proceeds to Carbon Offset Scotland, where Gillian will personally plant tree’s in Balmuick Farm, which is found above the village of Comrie in the Perthshire district.
“After the semi-final took place, I was thinking of ways to really help the environment. The dress I wore for the semi-final is just beautiful and I thought that auctioning it would be a fantastic way to raise money, especially with it being the bridal, prom and graduation season. The dress is by designer Scala, which is the company that provides dresses to Miss USA, Miss Universe and Miss Teen USA, so as you can image it is simply stunning.”
Gillian will be auctioning the dress through GLITZ ebay account, starting on the 26th May 2008, and the auction will run for 10 days. “The starting price will be relatively low, even though the dress is valued at £350, but the more money we can raise the more tree’s we can plant, which will offset carbon emissions, prevent global warming as well as restore traditional woodland and provide wildlife habitats for the many animals which have been forced to leave their homes due to the amount of tree’s that are cut for materialistic reasons.”
