Over 1800 people have attended The Scottish Government’s Eat Better Feel Better roadshows in Dundee.
The healthier eating team visited two supermarkets in the area to offer free help and advice to families on how to eat healthier by making small changes to the way they shop, cook and eat.
The Eat Better Feel Better team gave out thousands of free resources including food storage boxes and measuring spoons as well as recipe cards for families to recreate recipes at home.
Community groups including My Time Active MEND project joined the roadshow team to promote their own local services including cooking classes and other community support.
Maureen Watt, Minister for Public Health, said: “The response to Eat Better Feel Better has been overwhelmingly positive. The campaign’s message about how making small changes to your diet can have a big impact has really resonated with families across Scotland.
“Our roadshows have been such a big part of the campaign’s success and we’ve been delighted to discuss healthier eating with so many people at supermarkets across the length and breadth of the country.
“We want the Eat Better Feel Better message to continue for the long term, and the Scottish Government is working together with different retailers and community groups to make sustainable changes to the way Scotland’s families shop, cook and eat.”
The Eat Better Feel Better website has received over 115,000 hits since the start of the campaign. It has also proved to be a success on social media with more than 14,400 people following Eat Better Feel Better’s Facebook page.
Eat Better Feel Better works alongside
supermarkets and the convenience sector, as well as stakeholders and community groups from across Scotland’s food and health industry, to provide ongoing support and information for families. From practical cooking classes at community groups to special offers on healthy ingredients in-store, the campaign aims to provide advice and practical help in places and at times which suit them.
Eatbetterfeelbetter.co.uk provides recipes and tips from parents and a series of cook-along videos to provide practical, easy to follow guides to cooking healthier family favourites such as spaghetti Bolognese, home-made burgers and chicken curry.
