Dundee East MP Stewart Hosie, SNP Treasury Spokesman participated in a business breakfast debate this morning on the ‘Opportunities, Challenges and Risks if Scotland Chose to Be Independent.’

The event was attended by the local Dundee branches  of the  Institute of Directors and the leading  Accountancy body the ACCA at the Apex Hotel.

The event was chaired by Alan Hogarth of AH Strategies with Tory MSP Murdo Fraser also on the panel.

Speaking after the debate, Stewart said: “This was a very valuable discussion, well attended by the local business community and covered many topics raised by the audience including how a Yes or a No vote would affect public services and the business community.

“We discussed Scotland’s needs in regards to immigration policy and the current UK government’s policy which is holding back the university sector. Other questions covered the ramifications of a No vote and whether – unlikely in my opinion – Scotland would get any more devolved powers.

“Scotland is very well placed to survive as an independent country and thrive as one of the world’s wealthiest countries and when the arguments are put clearly, the scaremongering over independence can be seen through.”
