Not Getting Enough Sleep? It Could Be Your Bedding

ImageThe average bed contains more than a million dust mites. Common sleep disturbances such as tossing and turning, perspiring, and waking up with a stuffy nose, puffy eyes, and grogginess are often the result of allergens lurking in your bed. Bedding materials such as feathers, down, and synthetic fibers look and feel great, however, they can trap moisture, cause overheating, and create a clammy sleeping environment that is the perfect breeding ground for mold, mildew, and dust mites.

As the average person loses up to a pint of moisture a night into their bedding, controlling moisture levels in bedding is essential to eliminate these allergens. Wool naturally absorbs about 30 percent of its weight in moisture, 10 times as much as any synthetic. It then diffuses it, keeping your bedding dry and eliminating the damp environment that dust mites and mold thrive in.

Sleeping on a wool-filled mattress pad reduces tossing and turning. Studies show that people who slept on traditional mattresses tossed and turned 45 to 50 times per night. When they tried a wool-filled mattress pad, their tossing and turning was reduced by more than 50 percent. The sumptuous, lofty construction of wool conforms to the body and naturally buffers pressure sensitive areas like shoulders, hips, and ankles. As a result, participants tossed and turned less and their sleep was deeper.

"We have developed an entire line of wool-filled bedding products designed to give people a more restful sleep,” says Ralph Rossdeutscher, president of Natura World, the largest North American manufacturer of wool-filled bedding.

The sleep scenario that couples often report is the “too hot too cold syndrome” with one partner curling up to keep warm and the other kicking off the covers to cool down. Our products can eliminate this syndrome,” he says. “Our wool-filled mattress pad and duvet allow each person to sleep comfortably at the perfect temperature all night.”

The Natura wool-filled bedding collection is made from pure virgin wool encased in 100 percent unbleached cotton and includes the Natura wool-filled pillows, mattress pads and duvets. Unlike traditional bedding, Natura’s products address areas that affect your healthy sleep as well as those where common allergens thrive. Visit www.naturaworld.com to find the retailer near you.
