Dundee City West MSP Joe FitzPatrick today met with the family of the 10 year old girl who was pulled from her bicycle and mauled by two rottweilers in 2010 in Dryburgh.

The owner of the dogs that have been put down has been sentenced to one year in jail but is to appeal.

However, the MSP has now learned that the former partner of the dog owner is keeping another rottweiler in her home outside which the attack took place.

Joe FitzPatrick said: “I met today with the mother and grandfather of the girl who was savagely mauled and was horrified to learn that neighbours believe that there is another rottweiler, allegedly the mother of the dogs involved in the attack, now living at the address in Linton Road.

“This is extremely concerning. The address is on the route that the girl who was mauled passes on her way to school.

“During the trial that led to Derek Adam’s conviction, I understand that the woman who was also accused, although found not proven, suggested that she was not a fit and capable person to look after such big dogs.

“It comes as no surprise therefore that local residents are now questioning whether she should have this dog in her home, particularly given that less than two months have passed since the trial in December.

“I have taken up this allegation urgently with the authorities to determine what action might be taken.”
