Tayside Police is appealing for further information after the murder of 56-year-old Alexander McLennan, on Kingsway East on Saturday January 7, 2012.

Although three men have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident, Detective Inspector Kevin McMahon who is leading the investigation is keen to trace further witnesses who may have information that could assist police enquiries.

    He said

"Detectives have carried out an extensive number of enquiries both during and following the incident and are keen to trace a number of people who are known to have been in the areas surrounding the Cutty Sark and Westhall Court on Kingsway East at the time.

"Although the incident happened a number of weeks ago, it is hoped that these individuals will be able to recall where they were and what they saw that day."

Police are keen to trace the following people who were walking nearby when the incident took place at about 2.45pm on Saturday January 7, 2012.

In particular, there was a man seen walking a dog, possibly a whippet, on the pathway near the gas tanks between Happyhillock Road and Old Pitkerro Road, whom officers would like to speak to.  Another male wearing a dark top was also seen in the same area.

Two teenage girls are known to have been in Happyhillock Road, before walking up Westcroft Road. One of the girls had long dark hair, and was wearing a pink top with white or grey coloured horizontal stripes. She also wore dark coloured trousers and white footwear. The second girl had shoulder length dark coloured hair and she wore a sky blue coloured top, dark trousers and white footwear. She was also carrying a dark coloured hand bag.

Another woman was seen walking a pushchair eastwards on the footpath at Mauchline Avenue.

Police are urging these potential witnesses to come forward and make themselves known to the officers who are dealing with the enquiry.

If you remember being in the area at the time please contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222, or speak to any officer.

Alternatively information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
