Dundee City East MSP Shona Robison met the staff team at the Whitfield Boots Community Pharmacy who are anticipating an enhanced role for the pharmacy’s services when it moves into the new life services hub soon to be built east of Haddington Avenue.
Shona had been invited to the store by regional managers to outline their plans to upgrade services as part of the move next year.
At present, the pharmacy is the last remaining occupied unit in the Whitfield Shopping Centre apart from the Post Office which is only open in the afternoons but will relocate to the new life services hub which is to be built as a collaboration between Dundee City Council, NHS Tayside and other partners.
The hub is to open as part of a redevelopment opposite the new Ballumbie Primary School on public open space and will incorporate social work, healthcare, library, cafe and retail facilities.
Commenting on her visit, Shona said: “It was nice to meet the staff team at Boots Whitfield as I was already aware of the high regard in which they are held by local residents.
“They have a good rapport with the local community.
“Community pharmacies like this are vital and it is good to know that they will be a important part of the new life services hub giving a continuity of service to the local community.”
