A Dundee garden has won a national award after the city was chosen to pilot a scheme which aims to improve the standards of parks and green spaces.
The Barnhill Rock Garden off Broughty Ferry Esplanade has come up trumps for the city by winning the Green Flag Award, a national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales that has now been extended north of the border to Dundee and Edinburgh. Both cities had to nominate parks to go through the award application and assessment process.
Leisure, arts and communities convener Councillor Richard McCready said: "Dundee City Council is always looking to improve the standard in its parks and continuing investment focuses on improving facilities such as play areas, signage and pitches. "The council prides itself in active engagement with the public and development of Friends Groups to encourage ownership and more active involvement in the management and development of parks. "The rock garden is a great example of the partnership between the city council and the Friends of the Barnhill Rock Garden who continue to provide tremendous support and enthusiasm for this beautiful area. "The garden attracts many visitors from the local area and much further afield who are impressed by the layout and variety of many specialised plants that are growing there."
