Schools across Dundee will receive a visit from the Travelling Gallery this month, as the custom-built art gallery in a bus arrives with its latest exhibition ‘Re/trato’. The gallery will be showing an international selection of artwork, with exhibits from as far away as Colombia and Australia. All of the works are either portraits or use the human figure.
Pupils will be able to climb aboard the bus to see work by eight artists, including a hypnotic video of a skateboarder beside Bondi Beach by Shaun Gladwell, sculpture by Kenny Hunter, a video by Oscar Munoz which shows the artist painting a self portrait with water which evaporates as he paints, and distinctive bronze figures by Francis Upritchard.
The gallery will spend two weeks visiting primary and secondary schools. (See itinerary below):
Monday 21st April - Baldragon Academy
Tuesday 22nd April - Lawside Academy
Wednesday 23rd April - Grove Academy
Thursday 24th April - St Johns High School
Friday 25th April - Morgan Academy
Monday 28th April - Craigie High School
Tuesday 29th April - Menziehill High School
Wednesday 30th April - Braeview High School
Thursday 1st May - Harris Academy

As part of the Travelling Gallery education programme, pupils at Braeview High School will have the chance to create their own artwork inspired by the exhibition during an artist-led workshop.
The gallery’s visit to Dundee is part of a fifteen week tour to schools and communities throughout Scotland, and has been supported by Education Development Services at Dundee City Council.
