Contestants on the BBC1 talent show Any Dream Will Do have helped to raise
£10,000 for the charity Missing People and for the fund set up to find Madeleine
McCann, it emerged today.
The event, held on Sunday at Braxted Park, Essex, saw hundreds of balloons
released with appeals for Madeleine and other missing children from the UK.
Other celebrities lending their support included Emmerdale's Verity
Rushworth, and Geri Halliwell, Jason Donovan and Andrew Lloyd Webber who
provided items for auction.
The event was organised by Zoë Tyler, a celebrity voice coach and one of the
judges on Any Dream Will Do, where young male hopefuls compete to star in Joseph
And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the West End.
Ms Tyler said: "We wanted every penny raised by this event to support
Madeleine and other missing children. The support we have received from
celebrities, local businesses, and members of the public has been amazing."
Chief executive of Missing People, Paul Tuohy, said: "It is wonderful to see
celebrities and those touched by Madeleine's disappearance extending their
support for our charity and all missing people.
"Proceeds from the event will help us to continue our work finding 10 missing
people every week. We wish to thank everyone involved for making the event so
successful."
All proceeds from the event are being distributed equally between Madeleine's
Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned and Missing People, the new name for the
National Missing Persons Helpline.
