Alba Explorer, a former round the world racing yacht, is visiting Dundee from the 20th to the 24th August. The 22m yacht previously owned by Sir Chay Blyth’s Challenge Business is now owned and operated by Ocean Youth Trust Scotland. The Trust inspires positive change in young people through a programme of residential voyages aboard its fleet of large ocean going yachts.
Alba Explorer is due to arrive in the Tay Estuary on Sunday morning where she will take up the mooring at the RNLI Lifeboat buoy off Broughty Ferry.
Alba Explorer will be moored in Victoria Dock by the Apex Hotel on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd August. On Wednesday at 10:00 am, the Trust will host a Civic Reception at which local youngsters sailing on Alba Explorer will welcome the Lord Provost on board for a tour of the vessel. While Alba Explorer is alongside, the Trust will also provide information presentations to interested parties on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon on board the Frigate Unicorn, Victoria Dock.
On Monday, Thursday and Friday Alba Explorer will be running day sails on the River Tay for youth workers and teachers interested in finding out more about the work of the Trust. The Tay Unit of the Maritime Volunteer Service will provide the shore to ship transfers from Broughty Ferry. On Friday evening Alba Explorer will set sail for Port Edgar near Edinburgh with a group of local young people at the helm.
