Release Date December 5th.
The Golden CompassBased on author Philip Pullman’s bestselling first novel in the His Dark Materials trilogy, THE GOLDEN COMPASS is set in an alternative world where people’s souls manifest themselves as animals, talkingbears fight wars, and Gyptians and witches co-exist. At the centre of the story is Lyra (played by Dakota blue Richards), a 12-year-old girl who starts out trying to rescue a friend – and winds up on an epicquest to save not only her world, but ours as well.

The distinguished cast also includes Academy Award nominee Tom Courtenay (The Dresser), Derek Jacobi (Gosford Park), Ben Walker (BBC’s Sweeney Todd), Simon McBurney (The Last King of Scotland), Jim Carter (Shakespeare in Love), Clare Higgins (Stage Beauty), Jack Shepherd (Charlotte Gray), Magda Szubanski (Happy Feet) Christopher Lee (Lord of the Rings) and the voices of Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings), Ian McShane (Deadwood), Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient) and Kathy Bates (Misery).

THE GOLDEN COMPASS, directed by Academy Award nominee Chris Weitz (About A Boy) from his own screenplay and produced by Deborah Forte and Bill Carraro, will be released in the UK through Entertainment Film Distributors and opens nationwide on Wednesday 5th December.
