In a recent survey by the Scottish Chamber of Commerce Scottish companies were found to be struggling to recover from the ongoing effects of the recession, with little growth and development being seen. A similar feeling was given in a recent news article which detailed the high number of Scottish businesses that failed in the third quarter of 2011. New business, ‘Crafted in Scotland’ is keen to banish these negative views and show that, contrary to the views often depicted in the media, Scotland is indeed fighting back against the recession and a new wave of entrepreneurs are emerging.
Rather than being put off by the recession this website based business has seen it as an opportunity to support other businesses and champion the work of the Scots. The website brings together the work of crafters and independent producers in a stylish online shop. ‘Crafted in Scotland’ founder, Fiona Mackay, recognises the need for support and encouragement in the current market, "From my experience business activity is far from stalling in Scotland. I have been amazed by the amount of small crafters out there who are determined to expand their markets and build their businesses. Perhaps we are too focused on the negatives and not spending enough time celebrating and supporting the successes out there?"
‘Crafted in Scotland’ welcomes all Scottish based businesses and independent producers to join the site. More details can be found at
