Barnetts Motor Group has joined the green revolution and saved significant amounts of cash by upgrading the lighting in their workshops and floodlight areas to LED lamps. Barnetts Motor Group has operated in Dundee since 1965 and the lighting in the premises was well overdue an upgrade. The Group switched 83 bulbs across two sites to 100W LED corn lights, which used a quarter of the power of the existing 400W metal halide. The company also replaced 50 of their external floodlights with energy saving LEDs.
Martin Clark, Barnetts Project Manager said, “The switch to LEDs was initially just for cost saving purposes but once we began looking into the benefits of LEDs it was clear that the bulbs would offer a vast amount of environmental benefits too. We were keen to improve our environmental efforts within the business as we already have solar panels and we are looking to reduce our carbon output as much as possible.”
Martin continued, “As well as reducing energy bills, the LED lights will also improve the premises by providing a much higher quality of light which is a key requirement as lighting can help to showcase the cars. This wasn’t something we were aware of until we spoke to Rob Jennings at Lamp Shop Online, where we bought the bulbs from, and he pointed out the quality of the light would mean that the cars would look much better outside under the new floodlights. Upgrading the lights in our workshops has also meant that working conditions have improved for our staff.”
As well as enhanced lighting, further benefits of LEDs include lower maintenance costs and lower running costs, allowing savings to be spent elsewhere improving the business.
By switching to LED lighting in their workshop and floodlight area, Barnetts are set to save over £10,000 each year.
